A late-night shooting in New Orleans' Central Business District over the weekend sent one innocent bystander to the hospital after a verbal argument turned violent. Police responded to reports of gunfire around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 800 block of Poydras Street, a busy area known for its offices, hotels, and restaurants.
According to authorities, two individuals were engaged in a heated verbal dispute when one of them pulled out a firearm and opened fire. A person who was not involved in the argument was struck by a bullet and suffered injuries. That victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their condition has not been released, but police described the injuries as non-life-threatening.
A second person, believed to be one of the participants in the original altercation, was also hospitalized. Details on that individual's injuries were not immediately available. No arrests have been made as of Sunday evening. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings and speaking with witnesses to identify the shooter.
The incident has raised concerns among local business owners and residents, who note that the Central Business District is typically a high-traffic area even late at night. Police have increased patrols in the vicinity and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation remains active.
