A small-business development center in Fort Worth held its first in-person training event this week, marking a return to face-to-face coaching for local entrepreneurs after more than two years of virtual sessions. The center, which typically offers workshops on business plans, funding, and marketing, shifted entirely online during the pandemic. Organizers said the in-person format allowed for more direct interaction and hands-on problem solving.
The event focused on early-stage startups, covering topics like cash flow management and customer acquisition. Attendees worked in small groups with experienced mentors, a setup that had been difficult to replicate over video calls. One participant, who launched a food truck last year, said the live feedback helped clarify a few confusing points about tax filings.
Center staff noted that demand for coaching has grown since 2020, with many new businesses forming during the pandemic. They plan to hold similar in-person sessions monthly, while keeping some virtual options available for those who cannot travel. The next workshop is scheduled for early next month and will address digital marketing strategies for small retailers.
The center is part of a national network funded by the Small Business Administration, but operates locally with its own staff and volunteer mentors. Organizers emphasized that all services remain free to qualifying startups and small business owners in the Fort Worth area.
