The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May sale is set to proceed under a "business as usual" approach, according to consignors and buyers who attended the company's new-format preview at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. The preview, held earlier this week, gave participants a first look at the cataloged horses ahead of the main auction.
Industry insiders reported steady interest in the offerings, with many noting that the revised preview format did not disrupt their usual routines. "It felt like a normal preview day," one consignor said. "People were walking the barns, checking legs, and making notes. No one seemed thrown off by the change."
The sale, which features a mix of two-year-olds in training and yearlings, has drawn a range of buyers from across the region. Several trainers and agents were seen examining horses closely, while others reviewed pedigree pages and workout times. "The market has been consistent all year," a buyer commented. "We are looking for value, but we are also ready to compete for the right horse."
Fasig-Tipton officials have emphasized that the new preview format is intended to streamline the process for both buyers and sellers. Early feedback suggests the adjustment has been well received, with no major complaints about logistics or scheduling.
As the catalog closes and the sale ring prepares to open, the mood remains pragmatic. "There is always some uncertainty with a format change," a veteran consignor said. "But at the end of the day, people are here to buy and sell. That has not changed."
