Jackknifed semi-truck closes southbound Business 80, CHP says

A dramatic crash involving a jackknifed big rig has forced the full closure of the southbound lanes of Business 80 in Sacramento. The incident occurred on a key connector ramp during the morning commute, creating significant traffic disruptions.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision began when the semi-truck struck another vehicle on the connector ramp. This initial impact caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife, blocking all lanes. The situation escalated when the truck subsequently caught fire, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air above the highway.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene. Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames while CHP officers began the complex process of investigating the crash and clearing the wreckage. The closure is expected to remain in effect for an extended period as crews work to safely remove the damaged vehicles and assess any necessary repairs to the roadway.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area entirely and seek alternate routes. Significant delays are being reported on surrounding surface streets and nearby freeways as traffic is diverted. The cause of the initial collision remains under active investigation by authorities.
