Medtronic has finalized its acquisition of Scientia Vascular, a medical technology company specializing in advanced stroke treatments, for $550 million. The deal, which was announced earlier this year, brings Scientia's portfolio of neurovascular devices under Medtronic's umbrella. Scientia Vascular is known for developing highly flexible microcatheters and guidewires used in minimally invasive procedures to treat ischemic stroke and other brain vessel conditions. The company's technology is designed to navigate the complex and delicate anatomy of the brain's blood vessels, aiming to improve patient outcomes during clot retrieval and aneurysm repair.
Medtronic expects the acquisition to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing neurovascular market. The integration of Scientia's products is intended to complement Medtronic's existing stroke intervention tools, offering physicians a more complete set of solutions for treating cerebrovascular diseases. Financial terms of the deal were previously disclosed as $550 million in cash, subject to customary adjustments. The transaction closed following regulatory approvals. Medtronic has stated that the acquisition will not materially affect its fiscal year 2025 earnings guidance.
