As a college student, I made the decision to skip studying abroad, prioritizing my friends and boyfriend on campus instead. At the time, it felt like the right choice, ensuring I remained close to my support system during a pivotal phase of my life. However, looking back, I realize that this decision may have been a mistake.
Studying abroad offers invaluable experiences that extend beyond the classroom. It provides opportunities for personal growth, cultural immersion, and the chance to build a global network. While I cherished my time with friends and my boyfriend, I often wonder about the adventures I missed and the lessons I could have learned in a different country.
Reflecting on this sliding doors moment, I recognize the importance of balancing relationships with personal aspirations. While love and friendship are vital, embracing new experiences can lead to profound self-discovery and growth. I now understand that sometimes, stepping outside of one’s comfort zone is essential for a well-rounded college experience.
