WASHINGTON - In case you missed it, Congressman Smucker, who represents Pennsylvania's 11th district and serves as Vice Chairman of the House Budget Committee, wrote an op-ed for Small Business Week in the York Daily Record. He focused on how small businesses are the real engine of the local economy, from downtown storefronts to family-run farms.
Smucker argued that these businesses are not just statistics on a spreadsheet. They are the people who coach Little League, sponsor local events, and employ neighbors. He pointed out that when a family farm thrives, it supports feed suppliers, equipment dealers, and local markets. When a Main Street shop does well, it brings foot traffic that helps the bakery and the barber shop next door.
The congressman also touched on the challenges these businesses face, including high inflation and a tight labor market. He stressed the need for tax policies that let small business owners keep more of what they earn, rather than piling on new federal mandates. For Smucker, the message was clear: supporting small business is not about party politics. It is about protecting the fabric of communities across Pennsylvania.
