Business owners in Lake Geneva have launched a new recovery fund to help residents and local establishments rebuild after a series of devastating storms swept through the area. The initiative, spearheaded by a coalition of downtown merchants and restaurateurs, has already raised more than $7,000 in its first week.
The storms, which struck with little warning, caused significant damage to homes, storefronts, and public infrastructure. Fallen trees, flooded basements, and torn roofing have left many families struggling to cover emergency repairs and temporary housing. In response, the business community organized the fund to provide direct financial assistance to those most affected.
"We saw our neighbors lose everything in a matter of hours," said one organizer, who asked not to be named. "We had to act fast. This fund is our way of saying we are in this together."
The money will be distributed through a local nonprofit, with priority given to low-income households and small business owners who lack adequate insurance coverage. Donations are still being accepted at participating shops and through an online portal.
Local officials praised the effort, noting that private sector support has been critical while federal disaster aid remains pending. The fund is expected to remain open for at least another month, with organizers hoping to double the current amount as more residents learn about the campaign.
